VRS091 – Eric Mason From Vacation Rental Professionals Group

Today’s guest is a vacation rental industry professional in the widest sense. Having honed his skills with some of the biggest names in the business, Eric Mason brings all his multi-faceted skills to the industry and is impacting it in many ways, from advising dynamic start-ups to moderating the largest LinkedIn group in the vacation rental space.

As an early-adopter of LinkedIn, Eric saw it as a tool for networking with peers, and so the Vacation Rental Professionals Group was born. Free of solicitation and annoying ads (thanks to the hard scrutiny of his team of moderators), the group is home to a vast resource of industry knowledge and experienced VR owners, managers and suppliers. Got a pressing question? There is someone out there who has an answer for you. Want to share an experience? Expect to find empathy and support.

My talk with Eric was wide-ranging and explored his experience with Wyndham Exchange and Rentals, as well as talking about his involvement with VR-focused businesses such as Rate Clarity, Real Voice and Rate Coaster.

We discussed:

  • How it all started and Eric’s grounding in the hospitality industry
  • The value of LinkedIn for peer-to-peer support and knowledge sharing
  • How individual owners form the backbone of the industry
  • How to sort through the multitude of PMS and add-ons
  • Eric’s involvement with Real Voice and how it can help owners boost bookings
  • The three factors that can impact a new owner or manager seeking growth

And much more….

    Heather!

This pod cast rocked!! I wanted you to ask Eric 100 more questions 🙂
Checked out the links: love Nibodha! The blogs are a great resource and downloaded Periscope (definite learning curve there) ! Taking interacting to a whole new level. All the links have some valuable insight – even though I have no idea how a single property would integrate many of the services. Still good to know. I think the concept of accessing the platforms and interacting one on one within the “eco system” is a huge benefit to everyone in the industry. Definitely fits my philosophy of “evolve or become extinct!

Thank you for providing great content! Happy end of summer 🙂

  • Thanks Julia – good to hear from you! Learning and using Periscope is top of my list. I think it’s such a great platform for our industry.

  • Hi Jodi – will you be at VRMA in New Orleans? I’d love to come by and do a quick interview

  • Jodi Cleer

Yes Heather I will be there!! We are sponsoring the photography booth again. Everyone can stop by and have their professional head shots taken to update their LinkedIn. I look forward to meeting you.

  • Jodi Cleer

Julia, we at RealVoice can even service the individual home owner. We only charge a fee when we book, so it is affordable for everyone no matter how many properties you own.

  • Julia

Good to know! I’ll keep the info on the resource list- thank you. I’ll look forward to you interview with Heather and more detail about services.
